Global Village Gifts is teaming up with Utah State University's Center for Women and Gender to host International Women’s Night Out in conjunction with the International Women’s Day Celebration.
Our annual event will be held Friday evening, March 11th from 6 - 9pm and aims to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women globally. We will be offering chocolate tastings, prize drawings, an Italian soda bar, and henna tattoos. Visit our participating neighbors, The Spirit Goat and Tanaka Balance to receive a passport and stamp to be redeemed at Global Village Gifts.
We have invited local groups that empower women in our community, such as CAPSA and Sew n’ Sew. CAPSA does amazing work here in Cache Valley. They provide safe and confidential shelters, advocacy and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. They also help reduce incidents of abuse through prevention education.
Sew’ n’ Sew is a wonderful group of women in Cache Valley who sew re-usable sanitary pads for girls and women in Uganda and locally. Every month girls in rural Africa have to miss school one week at a time because of their menstrual cycles. Sew’ n’ sew works with SEEEME, an organization which provides schools, clean water and other projects in Uganda, and sends reusable sanitary napkins to girls along with educating them how to use them and how to properly care for their bodies. They also teach women how to sew their own pads and help them to create a business for them in Uganda.
